What Are The Changes For The PMP Exam?

PMI performs a PMP exam Role Delineation Study after 5-7 years to make sure that the certification displays current project management traditions, develops to comply with the professional requirements, and to conform to the needs of ISO 17024. The changes are as follows:

•   Project managers preparing for the PMP certification course must be conscious that about 30% of
the PMP exam will be changed.

•   Eligibility criteria concerning experience and education will not be changed.

•   As a consequence of the study by PMI RDS, some sections of the PMP certification course will be
tested in an another style since an existing area was observed to be applicable to all other parts of
the exam. Particularly, the Professional and Social Responsibility will be tested in all the fields, and
not individually. The RDS disclosed that this domain is intimately incorporated in all the tasks of
project management.

•   The Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct created by PMI must now be considered as
incorporated into the daily routine functions of a project manager, highlighting its significance during
all process groups and knowledge areas.

•   The revised pattern of the PMP exam is scheduled to be implemented with effect from 31 August
2011. Thus, 30 August 2011 will be the last day of the existing pattern.

How RDS is Deliberated?

The amendments proposed to be implemented in the PMP certification course indicate the importance of professional responsibility for the project managers. The number of PMP certification holders who participated in the study exceeded 3,000. They belonged to 97 countries, to ensure represent global participation in this important study concerning the PMP exam.

The RDS was led by a steering committee that comprised volunteers from diverse industries, and responsibilities. PMI commenced the study during 2009, functioning with Professional Examination Services that has proficiency in this field. The manner, in which RDS conducted the process, will be appreciated by the experts in the profession of project management, since the group included knowledgeable professionals, representing diverse business and countries. RDS has recommended that the PMBOK Guide will not be changed, and PMP exam prep will mainly focus on the integration of the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct into other domains of the PMP certification test.
